Hello All,
If you’re looking for young talents, come to Nigeria. They’re everywhere - in technology, entertainment, the arts, fashion, sports… the list is endless. But one vice has brought us more shame than the fame we earned through our dignified labour. It’s cybercrime, aka “Yahoo! Yahoo!” Paradigm Initiative Nigeria and Microsoft Nigeria proudly presents: The Alternative, our opportunity to redirect the energy of young Nigerians (from cybercrime) towards positive engagements, through the Internet Safety, Security and Privacy Initiative for Nigeria (ISSPIN) campaign and follow-up project.
There will be internet safety technology demonstrations by Microsoft; announcement of national essay and quiz competition winners; decoration of Internet Safety, Security and Privacy Initiative for Nigeria (ISSPIN) Ambassadors, public presentation of Microsoft/PIN’s technology capacity building program for young Nigerians, red carpet reception, music, and much more. Also featuring Banky W, Rooftop MCs and Owen Gee…
We are also glad to inform you that though event tickets cost NGN 2,000 each, Microsoft Nigeria has picked the bill to allow students and young professionals attend the event. However, we intend to keep the engines of The Alternative running through post-campaign events and involvements across Nigeria — especially the capacity building program that will identify and re-train youth who are drawn to cybercrime while also attaching them to mentors and providing them with internship opportunities with our partner organizations.
We invite you to support this cause and PIN’s work by paying for your tickets (or donating above the value of the ticket) through any of the following:
- Donate online using Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Maestro, Visa Electron, etc (see link at www.pinigeria.org);
- Write a cheque in the name of “Paradigm Initiative Nigeria” and leave with an official usher at the event;
- Buy/order “The Alternative” memorabilia (including stickers, T-shirts, wrist bands, etc).
You may also wish to invite us for a presentation at your office, to discuss possible support; sponsor The Alternative in your location of choice in Nigeria; volunteer to join The Alternative Group [TAG] team, the group that will support PIN’s work with the training curriculum design, implementation and evaluation; and/or discuss how you can host interns at your office. Please note that this ticket admits only one person, but those who requested for more than one ticket in their communication with Paradigm Initiative Nigeria may come along with their guest. We look forward to seeing you on Saturday and advise you to arrive early…
For more information, please write to thealternative@pinigeria.org, call 0702 830 72 05 or 0702 830 72 06. This event is sponsored by Microsoft Nigeria and proudly supported by Planet One Entertainment, Soundcity, Teledom Group, New Nigeria Club, NairaHost, Blarque Brotha Entertainment, Nigeria Computer Society, Nigerian Internet Registration Authority and the Computer!
