Without doubt the highest cult with the largest following spanning around the world is the game of football, well at least that’s my personal opinion, it cuts across cultures and religion and has more members than the United Nations and maybe i should add here that it unites more than the UN can imagine.
These days it is not uncommon to see rally’s and carnivals been held with respect to one club or the other. The passion for the game is something else. I have a friend who is a strong and addicted Arsenal fan and he confessed of only missing to watch only one match for a whole year. What a commitment!, well I told him that if such passion and commitment can be transferred to his dreams, he will achieve more in life.
I must confess that i am not a football fan, do i have a club? let me see, OK its Arsenal though I can’t remember when last i watched them play, its OK but its my club…gunners for life!
As the year 2009 kicks off as in the game of football, there are many players in the field of play and the official time of play is 90 minutes just as we all have 365days for this year to play out. Hang on you will get to what am ranting about.
No body pays to watch the referee, all eyes are on the players, but they are all in the same field of play running after an inflated balloon. Each team has 11 players stationed at different position to get maximum results. As the whistle signals the beginning of the game you see them all running, jumping, sweating and even getting injured some times just to get results.
When the ball is in the center line, the referee is there, it moves to the leftback, he is there, to the far right he is there, now my question is this, which wing is he playing? general manager of some sort. Now lets take some lessons:
1. The referee has no definite wing just running around where ever the ball goes and of course also sweating. If you must not end up like a referee, then you must play by a niche, focus your efforts on a task or a goal you have set for your self, not on generalities. Remember: what you focus on grows.
2. The referee acts as the judge and not the player. And as you well know in the game of life it is the players that are rewarded, not those who sit by the side line and analyze, criticize and condemn. If you want to see you financial or business dream come to pass then role up your sleeve and get dirty if need be.
3. As much as the referee runs around, at the end of the game nobody talks about him they talk more about the players, in order words, his impact was not felt and hence his value is minimal. Strive to increase your personal value, David beckham and Ronaldinho are paid that high because of their value, come to think of it we know who the highest paid player is, but who is the highest paid referee? what is the difference? Value.
Let me end this by quoting the words of Paul in the Bible, “That is why I run straight for the finishing-line; that is why I am like a boxer who does not waste his punches”. 1 cor. 9:26(GNB)
One translation renders it this way: “So I run-but not without a clear goal ahead of me. So I box-but not as if I were just shadow boxing”. 1cor9;26(NAB)
You will not run in vain, you will not waste your punches, you will run with purpose in every step.
